SSL stands for Secure Socket Layer. It is the Basics for the internet. It protects users for sending sensitive data over the internet such as credit cards and social security numbers. I guess these Iranian still don’t give a f*** though.

Comodo, one of the firms who provide SSL certificates, has revealed that it has suffered a breach, believed to have originated in Iran. The hacker fraudulently requested as many as nine certificates, and did in fact receive at least one of them. The hackers would impersonate a legitimate website, use one of their fake SSL certificates and steal personal data information. Sites that were affected were Google, Microsoft’s Live Service, Skype and Mozilla, maker of the popular Firefox Web browser.

Due to the nature of this type of theft, Internet users should be prepared to double-check their browser settings and remain aware that even data transmitted over SSL carries risks.
